This piece was inspired by the Japanese art of kintsugi, a practice that repairs broken ceramics with precious metals, emphasizing rather than concealing their fractures. By celebrating imperfection and honoring an object's history, kintsugi transforms damage into a meaningful part of its identity. After the final glaze firing, symbolic scars were added to this piece using epoxy sculpt and gold oil paint. These intentional marks reflect the beauty found in the experiences and histories we each carry, suggesting that our emotional and physical scars are not flaws to be hidden, but integral parts of who we are and how we continue to grow.
